What is JCAMP?
It’s a four-day workshop like nothing else in the state. At JCAMP you'll join the rest of your publication’s staff July 20 – July 24 on Virginia Tech’s campus to plan for the upcoming school year, brush up on your writing, design, editing and production skills, learn new techniques from some of the leading media advisers and journalists in
the area; and get motivated to produce an award-winning newspaper, yearbook, magazine or broadcast.

How much does it cost?
The registration fee for JCAMP is $475, which includes your meals, housing, recreation and workshop materials. Registrations must be postmarked by June 1.

How many students attend JCAMP?
Last year we had 75 registrants, and we're expecting more this year. And it's open to any students, not just Virginians.

Can I get a refund if I'm not able to attend?
Substitutions will be accepted up to one week before camp by calling Kelly Furnas at 540-231-3645. No refunds will be given for cancellations.

Must an adviser attend for students to attend?
Not at all. While we have allotted time for students to meet with their advisers and the rest of their staffs, we also have activities planned for students who are the sole representative from their school.

How are roommates assigned?
If you know someone of the same sex who is attending JCAMP, regardless of what school the student is from, you can request that person as your roommate on your registration form. If you don't request a roommate, or if the person you requested doesn't reciprocate, you will have a roommate assigned to you, with preferences given to pairs who are in the same track and/or are in the same grade level.

When will I find out what track I am in?
All tracks are contingent on enrollment demand. After the June 1 registration deadline, we will send all registrants information regarding their track as well as information about JCAMP check-in. Registrants who applied for the Advanced Newspaper track will also find out whether they were accepted at this time.

Do students need a teacher recommendation or any other prerequisites to attend the camp?
No qualifications are needed to attend the camp, unless you are considering the "Advanced Newspaper" track. Enrollment in that section is competitive and applying requires a resume, two clips and an essay.
