Individuals Section Editor
Responsible for soliciting and compiling student, faculty and staff profiles for inclusion in the individuals section. Ideal candidate is outgoing and proactive in acquiring profiles and pictures. Will also assist in formatting how individual portraits will be displayed. This is a volunteer position.
Office Manager
The office manager’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: reporting to the business manager the daily operations of The Bugle office and the conduct and management of daily business matters as determined by the business manager; supervising the office staff including developing and maintaining the work schedule, training the office staff, evaluating the performance of the office staff, and reporting all issues to the business manager; maintaining adequate office supplies, including those necessary for production and business operations; aiding the business manager in the hiring of office assistants; maintaining and posting the set Bugle office hours that were established by the business manager, this includes making certain that a staff member is present during set office hours. This is a paid position and eligible for work study.
Staff Writer
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: collecting all information for stories; assigning photo assignments for stories; including quotes and high quality writing in stories; writing the headline and subhead; writing in folio tabs and byline; reporting directly to section editor and/or assistant section editor. This is a volunteer position.

Associate Photo Editor
The associate photo editor assists the photo editor by: distributing photo assignments to staff photographers; providing choices of photos for department editors and offer suggestions for photo; ensuring all photographs are submitted with all cutline information; shooting deadline assignments when no other photographers are available. This is a paid position and eligible for work study.
Multimedia Reporter
As a multimedia reporter, you’ll be the point person for bringing news, sports and features stories to life. Whether striking out on your own projects or “tagging along” with a news reporter to add video or audio depth to a story, you will have a variety of tasks including writing, shooting/recording, editing and administrative tasks. You will be required to produce two “stories” per week, one of which will be a multimedia production attached to a textual news piece of your own production and the other will be either a textual news story for your section or a multimedia addition to a textual story produced by another reporter. This is a paid position and eligible for work study.
Online Blogger
Responsibilities include: producing at least three blog entries per week on a topic that interests you; attending regularly scheduled blog staff meetings; becoming accustomed to the blogging system; maintaining professionalism in blog entries. The blog staff will have the opportunity to produce multimedia content for their own blogs. This is a volunteer position.
Reporter / Staff Writer
The Collegiate Times' handles reporting assignments in the following manner. Each section - features, news, and sports - has a set number of reporter positions. These paid positions are eligible for work study and require reporters to follow a "beat," a certain topical area of investigation such as Blacksburg and local politics, music, or Virginia Tech football, and produce at least one story per week from this beat. They are required to write an additional story per week, which may or may not be from their beat assignment.
Staff writers have similar responsibilities to reporters. Staff writers cover beats and are required to produce at least one story per week on the topic of their beat. They are free to take additional assignments beyond that point, however. Staff writers are unpaid positions. Work done as a staff writer is a significant factor in hiring decisions for reporting positions.
Senior Web Programmer
Works closely with the online director in order to implement necessary modifications and improvements to the collegiatetimes.com content management system and.or separate site features. Proficiency in PHP, SQL, XHTML programming and Unix required. This is a paid position and eligible for work study.

Alumni Relations Director
The alumni relations director will: maintain a lumni relations through requests for donations/subscriptions; be ultimately responsible for writing and mailing patron/subscription letters once a year by the end of the first half of the fall semester; be required to hold office hours for at least two hours a week. This is a volunteer position.
Benefit Emcee
The benefit emcee: works closely with the special events coordinator at Silhouette benefit events; serves as emcee and host at Silhouette events; is required to hold office hours for at least two hours a week. This is a volunteer position.
Communications Director
The communications director: represents Silhouette at weekly SGA meetings and announces Silhouette events and submission deadlines to the student leaders at the meeting; acts as a liaison between Silhouette and any other local arts-oriented organizations; directs recruitment activities for Silhouette throughout the year (general information meetings); is responsible for maintaining a collection of advertisements, flyers, and other artifacts of Silhouette history. This is a volunteer position.
Distribution Manager
Distribution Manager is: responsible for the distribution of the magazine to all designated distribution locations, on and off campus; responsible for the maintenance of Silhouette computers and related equipment; responsible for making and distributing signs on racks around campus; responsible for distributing racks around campus; responsible for notifying the editor-in-chief and business manager if new racks need to be ordered; is required to hold office hours for at least two hours a week. This is a volunteer position.
General Staff
The general staff: aides magazine production by helping design layouts, critiquing magazine submissions, editing selected submissions for print, promoting the magazine via class visits and posting flyers, and assisting the editors with magazine-related tasks. This is a volunteer position.
Promotions Director
The promotions director: promotes Silhouette events and submissions deadlines; reserves and designs display cases in Squires for upcoming Silhouette events; designs flyers/posters for the Silhouette A-frame to be displayed outside Squires or McBryde for upcoming Silhouette events; organizes the ordering and distribution of any Silhouette promotional items; promotes Silhouette’s image around campus in new and creative ways. This is a volunteer position.
Radio Show Host
The radio show host is: responsible for hosting Silhouette Style on WUVT 90.7 FM for the designated time assigned to Silhouette by WUVT staff; responsible for conducting this show in accordance with all FCC and WUVT regulations; responsible for delegating themes and topics for each show, and bringing in guests as he or she sees fit; responsible for submitting themes on a monthly basis to the WUVT staff at least one week before the start of the month; responsible for promoting Silhouette activities on the show. This is a volunteer position.
Webmaster
The webmaster is a volunteer position completely responsible for maintaining Silhouette’s web page on a weekly basis, which includes updating an events page, updating the online magazine semesterly, and maintaining an online list of staff heads and contact information. This is a volunteer position.
Student Publications Photography Staff
Lab Manager
The lab manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining the lab at full operating capacity, maintaining SPPS equipment; keeping inventory of equipment and supplies; ordering equipment and supplies as needed; assisting in staff development and training; striving to improve the quality and efficiency of the staff; keeping office hours in order to maintain the lab; attending staff and staff head meetings; being responsible for equipment check out and film distribution; keeping the lab clean and in order. This is a paid position and eligible for work study.
Photographer
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing quality visual images for Collegiate Times and Bugle publication; attending twice-weekly photo meetings as determined by the director of photography; shoot features, events or portraits as assigned by photo editors; shoot feature photos on independent assignments; provide captions for photo assignments. This is a volunteer position.
VTTV student television
Entertainment Staff
Entertainment staff members will assist with the entertainment productions. They will work with the VTTV music producers and the VTTV movie producers on completing assignments and production. Specific duties will be determined by the entertainment director and producers. This is a volunteer position.
News Staff
News staff members assist with all news productions. They will work on news production assignments as determined by the news director and news producers. This is a volunteer position.
Programming Director
The programming director enforces censorship policies of all aired content; maintains a weekly programming schedule; makes sure all programming airs; coordinates master control; coordinates the schedule with the promotions director; and maintains an efficient tape archive system. This is a volunteer position.
Sports Staff
Sports staff members will assist with sports productions, assignments, and events as determined by the sports director and assistant sports director. This is a volunteer position.
Station Manager
The station manager will: be responsible for the internal operations of the station; act as the head production manager, making sure the programming department runs smoothly; act as a link between the management staff, keeping communication flowing; keep the general manager updated of any potential problems that could affect the efficient operation of the station; coordinate with management staff to avoid equipment conflicts; and coordinate staff training. This is a volunteer position.

Webmaster
The Webmaster at WUVT is responsible for updating the station’s Web site on a regular basis. This is a volunteer position.
