"Student media is far more effective than other media outlets due to the fresh look and methods that students give it.  Students embrace and master new technology faster and better than other media outlets due to our insatiable want to learn."

Travis Church works for the Student Publications Photo Staff (SPPS), an organization that provides photography for the Collegiate Times and the Bugle. He says that even as an engineering major, his time with SPPS is well-spent because he is learning about alternate career options and strengthening a fun hobby.  In addition to taking pictures for the Collegiate Times and the Bugle, members of SPPS manage business operations and sell photography and other products (such as post cards) to the public.

SPPS photographers meet weekly to teach photography skills and to divide up photo assignments.  Each semester, a few photographers will travel for sports games and others will get the chance to record live-breaking news stories with their cameras.  Photographers can also gain more experience (and earn some money!) photographing local weddings.

Any Virginia Tech student is welcome to join and no prior experience or equipment is needed.
